Horsing Around Montana

A world of horse opportunities, all in one state
By Nicole Lanphear, photos by Patrick Chaplin www.BitterrootBroker.com

A state that defines the quintessential “Wild West,” Montana is a place for families, friends or individuals to experience new adventures on horseback. Rolling green hills, deep blue skies and a quiet atmosphere create a haven for horse folk, whether they're coming from just across a county line or all the way across the country.

Residents will tell you the Montana attitude is unique, relaxed and peaceful. Linda Olson from Bitterroot Therapeutic Riding in Corvallis says being in Montana is like going back in time to enjoy the wide open spaces without the hustle and bustle.

From the mountain ranges in western Montana to the flat plains on the eastern side of the state, there are hundreds of equine activities for all ages and interests. VisitMT.com lists more than 60 rodeos and fairs throughout the year and more than 200 ranch vacations, outfitters, cattle drives and trail riding opportunities.
