Expanding Your Horizons in Idaho

Explore mountains, deserts, and everywhere in between
By Nicole Lanphear

From the highest peaks to the lowest, driest desert, Idaho presents the horse owner with the dilemma of packing attire for the right climate. Wherever you’re headed within the state, there is adventure ahead. Idaho’s $1.6 billion horse industry consists mostly of recreation and pleasure horses, so whether you’re a native of the state or just visiting, equine leisure activities abound.

Members of the Twin Rivers Back Country Horsemen of Idaho, Mark Bogar, and his wife, Pat, have been actively involved with several organizations that promote horse activities, trail conservation, and breed-specific activities.

“Idaho has some of the most beautiful and spectacular areas to see on horseback in the world,” Bogar says.
